Our Story

Billi Bakery is an Indian-inspired bakery founded by Arielle Kendrekar, with the goal of fusing Desi flavors with Western baking and pastry techniques.

Seeing all the East Asian baked goods popping up in the Bay Area, she asked why there weren’t desi-inspired flavors in pastries. We get matcha, why not chai?

The pastries wouldn’t exist without Arielle’s husband and chief taste tester Prajanya, and his mother Dhanasri’s home cooking. There is so much richness in Indian cuisine that Arielle has been introduced to through Prajanya, and he loved the idea of merging cultures to create Billi Bakery.

As a baker, Arielle has been making desserts for family and friends since her first baking class in middle school. Opening a bakery was always the alternate universe fantasy - one she decided to make a reality after quitting her tech job in 2023.

Billi Bakery’s logo is in honor of Arielle and Prajanya’s two cats, Mango and Truffle.
